Polytechnic Was established in 1984 by the name Vidyananda Gurukula polytechnic later it was changed by the name Dr. G S Melkote Rural Polytechnic. The polytechnic started with two Course
1. Electronic and communication
2. Civil Engineering.
Now we have started another two course
1. Mechanical Engineering
2. Computer science Engineering.

GOAL: The main aim and objective of this college is to provide technical education in this rural and backward area of Hyderabad- Karnataka region at Diploma level by producing technicians of high standard with their counter parts in urban area keeping in view the need of the industry. The main target is to train the Stakeholders for industrial and other specific jobs in government and also for self-employment. The above sense of discipline is inculcated in the students making them useful and responsible citizens. The students will be encouraged to participate in sports and other competitions .Our main target is to motivate the technicality among ruralyouths of Hyderabad Karnataka region.

This Polytechnic is a Government Aided Institution situated at Kuknoor.The Institution is located in a sprawling campus of 12 acres. This was the first Polytechnic and only one Polytechnic, established in undividedRaichur district(now in Koppal district carved out of the Raichur district) in 1984-85 and providing quality education for last 29 years in this rural and backward area of Hyderabad-Karnataka.
ThisPolytechnic is wholly run by the National awarded institution by name VidyanandaGurukula Education Trust Kuknoor(Taluk:Yelburga, Dist:Koppal Karnataka state) established in 1922 by a true Gandhiyan,a great freedom fighter and visionary by name Sri R.B.Desai.It is aided by Government of Karnataka and comes under the purview ofDirectorate of Technical Education
Bangalore. This is anup growing institution andis a recipient of various projects likeDirect Central Assistance Scheme of Government of Indialike MODROBS from AICTE / Community development through Polytechnics / up gradation of existing Polytechnics Scheme etc.
